Ruth Marie Nitti
02/14/1925 - 12/11/2015

~~Ruth M. Nitti, 90, of New Providence passed away, surrounded by her loving family, at Care One in Livingston on December 11, 2015. A funeral service will be celebrated at the chapel at Restland Memorial Park, 77 DeForest Ave in East Hanover on Saturday, December 19th at 11am. Friends are invited to visit at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St, Chatham on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm.

Born in Newark, the daughter of Rudolph and Johanna Peter, Ruth was raised in Union and had resided in New Providence since 1961. As a young woman, Ruth loved to sing (opera) and play the piano and was accomplished at both. She also enjoyed sewing and the beach.

While she enjoyed a long work life, her focus has always remained her family and children. While fulfilling the traditional role of homemaker and mother, she gradually reentered the work force, part-time at first, before resuming full-time employment for the last 20 plus years of her working life. She believed in being a “worker and not a shirker” and devoted her energies equally between her home, family and work life. She was a den leader for the cub scouts in her younger years while actively engaging her children in scouting, Little League Baseball, and other recreational activities.

She had worked in office administration and management for several companies including Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Summit, the Kuntz Company in Berkeley Heights and GAF/Sutton Labs in Chatham from where she retired in 1997 after 15 years of service.

In her retirement years, Ruth was an active member of the community. She worked at the New Providence Historical Society, the New Providence Seniors, where she was a Sunshine Lady, and Stanley Congregational Church in Chatham where she was a long-time member and contributor.

Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Daniel Nitti. She was the loving mother of Darrell Nitti and his wife Diane and Randall Nitti. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Kimberly, David and Charley, her brother Kurt Peter, nieces, Diane and Joanne and nephew Kenneth.
