Salvatore Popolillo, Jr.

Salvatore Popolillo, Jr., died suddenly at home on February 20, 2012. He was 55.

Sal had a career in the food business. Most recently, he was the Regional Sales Manager at JFE Shoji Trade America Inc.

Sal had unbridled energy and enthusiasm for life. He was a devoted father to his children, Salvatore, III, and Guiliana. In Long Hill Township, Sal had been on the Little League Board for more than five years and was secretary for the past four years. He coached Sal’s baseball and soccer teams and Giuliana’s softball and soccer teams. Last season, Giuliana wanted to try field hockey. Sal not only coached her team but he ran the Township’s program and expanded it to include games with other towns. His spirit of volunteerism was recognized on January 25, 2012 when he was presented with the Mary Thoms Award for outstanding volunteer contributions by the Recreation Advisory Committee. He enjoyed many hours with friends at the Ryder Cup Golf Outing, although truth be told, he was not a great golfer. But to Sal, his score was not the issue. Spending time with friends, laughing and enjoying the day were his priorities.

In 2010, Sal had one of the best times of his life rafting through the Grand Canyon with friends from town.

He is survived by his wife, Carla; children, Salvatore, III, and Guiliana; brother, Michael Popolillo and wife, Allison, sister, Ruth Meyer, and nephews, Gregory Meyer and Kenneth Meyer; his brother-in-law, Adolph Sommela, and nephew, Gabriel Sommela, mother-in-law, Selma Green, and many Aunts and Uncles and cousins who will miss him dearly.
