Seymour “Sy” Kahn, of Springfield, passed away on August 10, 2024 at Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains. He was 97.
Born in Paterson, NJ to the late Sarah and Henry Kahn, Sy was a graduate of Bayonne High School, where he won the school tennis championship. He attended Rutgers University, where he was a member of tennis and basketball teams as well as a brother of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity. He later served in the US Navy during World War II and became an accountant for the Internal Revenue Service.
Sy was a member of East Orange Tennis Club, the Rutgers Athletic Family, Short Hills Mall Walking Group and was a parishioner at St. James the Apostle RC Church in Springfield. While his sons were growing up, he coached their youth basketball teams.
Sy was the beloved husband of 57 years to the love of his life, Regina Sonowski Kahn. He was the loving father of Eric G Kahn of Westfield and Gregg S. Kahn of Basking Ridge; cherished grandfather of Nicole, Courtney, Gina, Gabriela, Justin and Nicole and devoted great-grandfather of Zachary. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and uncle.
