Stanley W. Guthrie, Sr., Passed away at Clara Maas Medical Center in Belleville on August 27, 2022.  He was 91.  A funeral service will be held at Bradley, Haeberle & Barth Funeral Home, 1100 Pine Ave. in Union on Saturday, September 10th at 10am.  Interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield.  Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service.

Born and raised in Washington DC, the son of Hillard J. and Phoebe May (Lee) Guthrie, Stanley had also lived in Newark before moving to East Orange 30 years ago.  He proudly served his country in both the Army and Navy between 1948 to 1952.  Stanley began his career in the Newark Police Department and later as a sergeant for the Essex County Sheriff’s Department retiring after 25 years of service.  After retirement, he worked in private security for Anheuser-Busch in Newark and also for the Wilbert B. Driver Manufacturing Company in Newark and Florham Park.  Stanley loved western movies and all genres of music.  He enjoyed swimming and will be fondly remembered for his devotion to his family and his sense of humor.

Stanley was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy Guthrie.  He was the loving father of Linda Guthrie (Wade), Barbara Guthrie, June Guthrie, Stanley W. Guthrie, Jr., John Guthrie (Bonnie), and Michael Guthrie.
