Susan Coyle Shinners
06/19/1939 - 05/31/2024

Susie was born in Pittsburgh, PA to John J. and Dorothy Hamilton Coyle.

She attended St. Lawrence O’Toole Church and elementary school and Sacred Heart High School, in Pittsburgh, graduating in 1957.

She was an accomplished figure skater who declined to join Ice Capades.

Susie worked as an assistant to a Podiatrist in Pittsburgh for two years, then as the secretary for the Volunteers Dept at West Penn Hospital for nearly ten years.

In 1968, she married Rodney Shinners who she met as 3rd Officer aboard the SS Alcoa Polaris in 1963 and had their first son in 1969 at West Penn Hospital.

They moved to Short Hills, NJ in 1970, where three more sons, including identical twins, were born.

When the boys were of age, she worked again as a Podiatrist’s Assistant and then for 17 years as an assistant to a Summit, NJ Endodontist from which position she retired at age 77.

Susie loved being with her doctors and their patients; work was very enjoyable to her. She had a great sense of humor and she always got jokes that left the others with quizzical looks.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, sons John, Dennis, Mark and James, cousins Jane, James and Charles in South Jersey and brother-in-law Maj. Gen. James McIntosh of Pennsylvania. Her sister Katherine passed away in 2011.
