Thomas “T-bone” Shedlak 78, of New Providence, N.J., passed away peacefully on Friday, June 9, 2023, at The Center for Hope in Scotch Plains, NJ.
Tom was born in Summit, NJ. He lived in Summit and New Providence. He graduated from New Providence High School in 1963. He proudly served his country as a sailor in the Navy. He was on the USS Mount Mckinley AGC7 and received the Armed Forces Expeditionary medal on August 27, 1965, while serving during the Vietnam War.
He worked for the Veterans Administration at Lyon’s VA Hospital in Basking Ridge, NJ. He had a successful and fulfilling career as an addiction counselor. He mentored and assisted many on their journey towards sobriety. He worked in this field for 40+ years before retiring.
Tom loved watching sports of any level and would attend many of the Highschool games in town. He loved collecting stamps, and coins. His music and jukebox brought him joy, he loved listening and singing to the “oldies.” His family and friends meant the world to him. Tom loved Holidays with family and sharing a meal. He enjoyed dining at Old Glory and spending time with his Dunkin Donuts crew. He was often seen around town or on the front bench with his best friend, the late, Carmen Piccolo.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frances Wied (Freddie Wied) and Stanley Shedlak. His brother, Douglas Norman (Maude Norman.) He is survived by his sisters, Judy Shedlak (June Korb) of Westfield and Janice Coleta (Peter Coleta) of New Providence. His nieces, Angelina Ranieri (John Ranieri), Jenny Lombardo (Mathew Lombardo) and Nicole Norman. He was loved dearly by his many Grandnieces and Grandnephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Bradley, Brough & Dangler Funeral Home
from 3-5 p.m. 299 Morris Avenue Summit, NJ 07901
