W. Monroe Atkinson, 83, of Short Hills, New Jersey passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ.
Monroe was born on February 3, 1934 in Jersey City, NJ. He was the son of the late Mr. Walter William Atkinson and Mrs. Bertha May Sharp-Wrege
He was a graduate of Columbia University, School of Engineering and worked as Chemical Engineer at Hankel Corporation. He and his late wife were members of the young republicans, Central Club and also a member of Morrow Memorial Methodist Church, Maplewood, NJ.
In his spare time, he enjoyed photography and loved his 1959 and 1963 Sting-Ray Corvettes including organizing the Central Club’s first Road Rally.
Monroe was predeceased by his beloved wife, Faith Emerson Atkinson. He was the loving dad of William O. Atkinson and daughter-in-law Lori and cherished grandfather of Austin and Sophia Atkinson.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Morrow Memorial Methodist, 600 Ridgewood Rd, Maplewood, NJ 07040. An entombment will follow at Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover, NJ. Monroe donated to many organizations throughout his life and in lieu of flowers donations can be directed to Morrow Memorial Methodist Church, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Research, Hearing Loss Association of America, American Red Cross, Good Will Rescue Mission Newark or Atlantic Hospice.
