Walter Becker, 90, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2016. Born and raised in Irvington, Walter moved to Short Hills in 1965, where he worked as a pump operator for the East Orange Water Company for 25 years. He has lived in Springfield for the last 16 years. A veteran of the US Army, Walter served during WWII. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing in Belmar, horse racing and horseshoes. He also enjoyed his coffee, only if it was “really hot”.
Predeceased by his wife Agnes, daughter Elaine, and grandchildren Stacy Becker and Rose Maroulakos; Walter is survived by his children, Sharon and her husband Damon, Sheila and her husband Keith, Robin and her husband Dan, Patty and her husband Joe, Mary, Brenda, Georgette, Walter and his wife Diane, and Edwin and his wife Julia; 25 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 11:30am at the Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave., Springfield. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover. There will be a visitation on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the funeral home.
