Walter L. Hinman, Jr. passed away peacefully at home in New Providence, NJ, on July 16, 2020. He was 89. The funeral service on Wednesday, July 22nd is private but will be live streamed at the above link. Arrangements are by Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home in Chatham, NJ.
Born and raised in New York City, the son of Walter, Sr. and Rachel (Howland), Walter graduated high school from Friends Seminary. He had also lived in Stanton, Glen Ridge and Plainfield, NJ before settling in New Providence in 1959. Walter earned a BS in Physics from Harvard University and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University. He later received a Master’s in Electrical Engineering from The Newark College of Engineering (now NJIT). Walter proudly served his country in the Navy on the Aircraft Carrier Bennington during the Korean War. He began his career at Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Newark where he met his future wife. He retired from RFL Industries in Boonton in 1996. Walter was an active member of The Presbyterian Church at New Providence. He was an avid NJ Devils fan and enjoyed participating in many sports including skiing and golf. But most of all, he loved spending the summers with family, swimming, sailing and crabbing at their summer home in Brant Beach on Long Beach Island.
Walter leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Adele, his daughter Diana Harrington (Joseph), 3 sons: Robert, John (Lisa) and William (Lori Ann), and 8 grandchildren: Colleen, Grace, Dorothea, Thomas, Annabeth, Zachary, Joshua and Jacob. He is predeceased by his sisters, Rachel Matto and Constance Taylor.
