Walter Perry Nilsson, 91, of Chatham, passed away on April 19th, surrounded by his loving family, at the home of his son in Massachusetts.
Born and raised in Newark where he graduated from Barringer High School, Mr. Nilsson had also lived in East Orange before moving to Chatham Township in 1956. He received his Bachelors Degree from Rutgers University. Mr. Nilsson served his country during WWII. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy stationed on the U.S.S. Biloxi. Mr. Nilsson was the President of JV Haring & Son in New York City where he worked for over 50 years before retiring in 1992. He was a charter member of the Fairmount Country Club, long time member of the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township and enjoyed photography.
Mr. Nilsson was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Haring Nilsson. He was the loving father of Nancy Scheiderman and husband Roger of East Fallowfield, PA, Betty Altrichter and husband Wayne of Chatham, Nina Nilsson of Media, PA, and Bob Nilsson and wife Beth of Weston, MA. He is also survived by his 11 cherished grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, sister, Ruth Eisenhardt and husband Charles, and brother-in-law, Jack Cameron. His sister Alma Cameron died previously.
