William H. "Bill" Dempsey, Jr.

William H. “Bill” Dempsey Jr. passed away on September 12, 2023, at age 97. Born on Long Island and raised in The Bronx, Bill resided most of his life in Short Hills, NJ.

At 19, he was one the youngest soldiers to be selected for OCS (Officer Candidate School), serving as a 2nd Lieutenant during WWII.  Upon his discharge, Bill returned to Lehigh University to study engineering, graduating in 1950 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Subsequently, Bill worked for over 40 years with The American Aluminum Co. in Mountainside, NJ, as Vice President.

Bill loved his family, bass fishing, traveling the world, and was proud to be a founding member of Pilgrim Congregational Church in Warren, NJ.   He especially loved following Lehigh’s Wrestling and Football teams, and was an active member of the Lehigh Wrestling Club and the Football Boosters.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Amelia and William H. Dempsey Sr.   He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Eleanor G. Dempsey, his sister, Joan VanDerBeck, and his children, Dale Brandt (Tom) and William H. “Chip” Dempsey III (Hope).  Additionally, Bill is survived by 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
