William J. Clinton, Jr. of Florham Park, NJ, died September 21, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 94 years old.
William (Bill) was born August 3, 1930, in Philadelphia, PA to William and Mary (Meleady) Clinton, the third of five children. He graduated from La Salle College High School, Philadelphia, PA, in June 1948. Upon graduation, he entered the Christian Brothers Ammendale Novitiate in Maryland until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 1951. He was honorably discharged in November 1955. He served in the Philadelphia Police Department until he began his career with Exxon, USA in 1970. He retired in 1993.
Bill was an avid sports enthusiast. He particularly liked hockey and was an inaugural season ticket holder of the Philadelphia Flyers. His enthusiasm led to his starting one of the first men’s recreational hockey teams in Philadelphia, The Boulevard Tigers. His love of the game led to coaching youth hockey in Baltimore, MD and officiating after moving to NJ. Additionally, he enjoyed skiing, photography, videography, flying and travel — not necessarily in the order. He often photographed his grandchildren playing sports — hockey, lacrosse, soccer and baseball wherever they played. His travel photography and videography collection is extensive. It was recently noted that most of the photographs the family has were taken and matted and framed by him.
Wherever he went Bill would strike up conversation. He made friends easily and kept in touch by letter, email, text and calls.
Bill was a communicant at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in Chatham Township, NJ where he had resided for 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Yone (Tate) Clinton of Florham Park, NJ; his children William J. Clinton and Sandy Van Dam of Cranford, NJ, Elizabeth Clinton of Baltimore, MD, Bernadette M. Sussman of Florham Park, NJ, Timothy C. Clinton of Mahopac, NY and Catherine C. Fleming of Florham Park, NJ; his grandchildren: William T. Clinton, William C. Kapp, Timothy and Julie Sussman, Constance and Paul Snieckus, Timothy M. Clinton, John H. Fleming, Grace Luksic and Theresa Fleming; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson, the late Patrick M. Sussman.
