William J. Comerford, Jr., “Bill”
05/03/1942 - 05/27/2024

William J. Comerford, Jr., “Bill”, of Whippany, passed away on May 27, 2024. He was 82.  Born and raised in Paterson, NJ to the late Regina and William J. Comerford, Sr., Bill was an excellent athlete in both baseball and basketball at St. Joseph’s High School, graduating in 1959. He then attended Bloomfield College, earning his Bachelor’s degree. He met the love of his life, Carolyn, and settled in Whippany in 1969  where they raised their family and made neighborhood friends that were like family for more than 50 years.

After a very successful career with a work ethic second to none, Bill retired from Bergdorf Goodman in New York City as Vice President of Credit & Finance. He had also worked for Associated Dry Goods, Hahne & Company, and Seaboard Finance. In the 1970’s, he owned a small business in Morristown, Bam Furniture.

Bill was a parishioner at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Whippany. He loved fishing and spending time on his boat with his wife and grandchildren. For many years, he and Carolyn enjoyed spending winters as snowbirds in Largo and Indian Rocks Beach, Florida. He was also an avid fan of the New York Yankees.  Bill loved holidays – especially Christmas – and was a very generous man giving to others whenever he could.

A devoted family man, Bill was the beloved husband of 57 years to Carolyn. He was the loving father to daughter, Crista Vogt (husband Michael) and son, William, III (wife Enza); cherished Poppop to Andrew (wife Marcy) and Thomas Vogt (fiancee Jianna) and William, IV and Marina Comerford; and devoted Great-grandfather to Margo and Richard Vogt, Josie Vogt and Gage Simeone.  He is also survived by his sister, Maryann Currington, nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.
