William J. Milton, Jr. “Bill”, 79, of Short Hills, NJ, passed away on July 29, 2023. Visiting Hours at Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave. in Springfield will be held on Sunday, August 6th from 4 to 8pm. A Memorial service at Community Congregational Church, 200 Hartshorn Dr. in Short Hills will be held on Monday, August 7th at 11am.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, the son of William and Katherine (Brow) Milton, Bill was raised in Manhasset, Long Island. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Hamilton College in NY and later, he earned a Master’s Degree in Forest Economics from the University of Montana and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley. Early in his career, Bill was a securities analyst on Wall Street. He later started an investment advisory firm. Bill managed the family’s commercial real estate business as well. Bill did volunteer work, serving as the treasurer for the Center of Domestic Violence in New York City. A collector of old, rare dictionaries, he also enjoyed running and hiking. But most of all, Bill loved playing with his grandchildren.
Bill was the beloved husband of 47 years to Leslie. He was the loving father of Kelly Milton (husband Thomas Dugger, children Ashley, Lily Courtney, and Scarlett), Heidi Milton (husband Nick Treat, children William and Andrew), and Jennifer Wolfe (husband Kyle Wolfe). He is predeceased by his sisters, Lynn Walker and Nancy Milton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Environmental Defense Fund at https://donate.edf.org.
