Anne Gwozdz Leighton

April 19, 1924 – May 26, 2022

Anne Gwozdz Leighton died in the early morning hours of May 26, 2022, peacefully in her sleep, of natural causes, at the age of 98.

She was born in Morristown, New Jersey, the youngest of 6 children, to Wasyl (William) and Eufimija Gwozdz (née Sulysz).  She was preceded in death by both parents and all of her siblings.  She grew up on Jefferson Road in Whippany, New Jersey, and graduated from Morristown High School in 1941.

Upon graduating high school, she worked briefly at the (then) Iron Bank in Whippany, before joining Bell Telephone Laboratories in Whippany as a teletype operator.  While working there, she met John Leighton, who was an electrical engineer at the Labs.  They were married in 1947, and had three children.  Her husband died in 2005.  During the course of their 58 years of marriage, they lived in the Morristown / Convent Station area of New Jersey as well as the Burlington / Greensboro area of North Carolina.  Her hobbies and interests included gardening, playing bridge, sewing, knitting, needlework, cooking, and crafts.

She is survived by daughter Joanne Leighton Rohrbach (Kenneth) of Wilmington DE, son David Leighton (Chris) of Corolla NC, son John C. Leighton (Gerry) of Myrtle Beach SC, grandchildren Andrew Rohrbach (Sheila) of Boca Raton FL, Lindsey Rohrbach of Long Island NY, Scott Rohrbach of Wilmington DE, Jessica Leighton Dunn (David) of Philadelphia PA and John M. Leighton (Kelly) of Chicago IL, and great-grandson Nathan Antojado.

Visiting hours will be on Friday, June 3 from 10 am to 12 pm with Words of Remembrance starting at 12 pm at Bradley-Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Rd. Whippany, New Jersey followed by entombment at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in East Hanover, New Jersey.
