Anna G. Tretola (100) of Union and Toms River, NJ, passed away peacefully surrounded by her adoring family on March 26, 2024.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. James the Apostle Church, 45 S. Springfield Ave. in Springfield on Tuesday, April 2nd at 10am. Interment will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown. Visiting hours at Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave. in Springfield will be on Monday, April 1st from 4 to 7pm.

Born in Newark, the daughter of Philip and Emilia (Soriano) Guglielmo, Anna was the youngest of six children and sole daughter. Anna graduated from West Side High School in Newark. After marrying Hugo, the couple moved to Irvington before settling in Union to raise their family. Anna and Hugo retired to Toms River and lived there for many years. Anna also lived in Springfield and Cranford before moving to Mountainside five years ago.

After raising her family, Anna worked part time at several local businesses including Union Hospital and Broad Street Stationers. She was an active parishioner at both St. Michael the Archangel Church in Union and St. Maximilian Kolbe in Toms River.

Anna was an avid reader and loved bowling, dancing and music. Frank Sinatra classics, especially ‘When You’re Smiling’, were her favorites, and would immediately inspire an impromptu sing along or dance session. Anna’s culinary skills, inherited from her mother, included her signature dish – homemade meatballs and ‘gravy,’ and she proudly served it to her family for decades. Above all, Anna loved spending time with her family, as demonstrated by her active involvement in the lives of her four grandchildren, attending numerous school events and sports games. For many years, Anna and Hugo spent their winters in Florida golfing and embracing the Florida sunshine.

Anna’s smile could light up a room, and her witty sense of humor will be forever remembered. Anna will also be fondly remembered for her devotion to her family and church.

Anna’s family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Grace Hospice and Arbor Terrace Assisted Living for their kindness and care, particularly during the past few months, including Anna’s 100th birthday celebration in January.

Anna was the beloved wife of 63 years to the late Hugo W. Tretola. She was the loving mother of Michael Tretola (Ann), Rita Jensen (Jerry) and James Tretola (Susan). She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Michael Tretola, Colleen Tretola, James Tretola Jr. and Robert Tretola (Andrea), and great granddaughters, Ava and Vivian Tretola. She is predeceased by her 5 brothers: Raymond Williams, Joseph Williams, Gerard Williams, Arthur Williams and Frank Williams.
