On Friday, July 8, Brigitta Maziul passed away peacefully at the age of 96 while sitting in her backyard amongst her flowers and plantings.
Brigitta was born on October 29, 1925 to Leo and Lucia (Haritz) Derda in a village outside of Sensburg, Germany. At the age of 25, Brigitta immigrated to the United States, with a stop first in the U.K., where she became a U.S. citizen in 1959. In 1960, she moved into her “forever” home in Chatham Borough, NJ with her then husband, Adolf Maziul who passed away in 1985. Brigitta enjoyed her work with clothing including the many years she worked at Saks Fifth Avenue. It was there that she met her second husband, Joseph Scaglione, whom she married in 2003.
Brigitta enjoyed traveling and was fortunate enough to have visited numerous cities all over the world throughout her life. Her passions were also closer to home including gardening in her backyard where she grew a variety of flowers and trees. Brigitta lived a very active life, having played tennis, swimming regularly, and hosting and entertaining friends and family. Brigitta was known for her warmth, her hospitality and her story telling.
Brigitta was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, her sister Lucia Pape, and her brother Eugen. She is survived by her stepdaughter Vanessa Scaglione and stepson-in-law Walter Radtke, her stepson Patrick Scaglione and stepdaughter-in-law Kimberly Lucci, her four grandchildren Bridget Radtke, Chloe Radtke, Nina Radtke and Isabella Scaglione, and her siblings Irene Wichniewski, Heidi Meinhart, and Gina Smith. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by her loving family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at the Bradley Funeral Home, Chatham Borough, NJ from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. Donations in memory of Brigitta may be made to the Chatham Borough Emergency Squad or to Sage Elder Care.
