Carmelina Hennigan, 83 of Chatham New Jersey passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at her home.
Carmelina was born on April 18, 1937 in Middlebury, VT. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John and Grace (nee Alcaras) Barrera.
Carmelina, or Melina as she was known to most, was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She is predeceased by her husband, Michael J Hennigan who was by her side for over 50 years, She is survived by her four children; John Hennigan ( Morris Plains, NJ); Dr. Michael Hennigan (Panama City, FL); Ann Asbaty (Randolph, NJ); and Kathleen Shannon (Madison, NJ). She is also survived by four siblings: Dr. Sam Barrera (Canton, MA); Mary Scott ( Glen Falls, NY); Joseph Barrera ( Framingham, MA); and John Barrera (Middlebury, VT).
Melina’s love of teaching and her beloved Vermont established a lifelong aspiration of learning and simple pleasures. She loved the classroom and taught high school students to second graders until illness necessitated her retirement in 1977. The love of the green mountains was never far away and her connection to her extended family in upstate NY brought her great joy.
She was a long-time parishioner of Corpus Christi Church, Chatham Township, NJ.
A private family viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Chatham, NJ 07928. A graveside service will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE First Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
