Eleanor H. Schoenwalder
04/12/1928 - 03/09/2024

Eleanor H. Schoenwalder, formerly of Beach Haven Crest and Union, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2024 in Gladstone. She was 95.

Born in Irvington to the late Elsie and William Wagner, she lived in Union for many years before settling in Beach Haven Crest on Long Beach Island in 1986. She had fallen in love with Long Beach Island years before while dating her future husband Max. He told her “once you put your toes in the sand, there’s no turning back.” She loved watching the sunsets on the bay from her deck of her beach home. She spent most Friday nights going out to dinner with friends on LBI. She was a master at playing solitaire on her sofa with her miniature cards and loved playing the slot machines in Atlantic City. She was also famous for her German Potato Salad which had no recipe and no one could ever replicate it.

She travelled the world with her husband and soulmate, Max. The most memorable trip was flying on the Concord to England and returning on the Queen Elizabeth 2. They sailed on over 20 cruises.

Eleanor was a member of Connecticut Farms Presbyterian Church in Union for many years and she and Max were married there.

Family was the most important thing in her life. Her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren loved visiting her at the beach house. She also cherished her shopping trips with her daughter and granddaughter, where lunch was always on the agenda.

She was the beloved wife of 55 years of Max A. Schoenwalder Jr., who passed away in 2010. She was the loving mother of Ellen Ricker and her husband, Lad and Jill Sinck and her husband, Richard. She was the devoted grandmother of Michael Sinck and his wife Anna Sinck, Stephanie Fox and her husband Stephen, Austin Ricker and Will Ricker. Her great grandchildren, Theodore Gene Fox, Henry Samuel Fox and Elliott Gabriel Fox were the apple of her eye. Elliott was named after his great grandmother and we are so blessed that she got to meet him.
