Francis Xavier Tormey, passed away on April 13, 2024, in Chatham NJ at the age of 81. He was the loving husband of Judith (Poletto) Tormey, and they shared 57 years of marriage together living in NY, NJ, South Africa, and Maryland.

Frank was born on July 8, 1942, in his home in Flushing, New York. He was the youngest son of Thomas and Delia (Fahey) Tormey.  He graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1960, then he earned his Bachelor’s degree from Manhattan College, NY.  He also served in the US Army National Guard Reserves.

Frank was a kind, loving, soft-spoken man with a dry Irish wit and a great sense of humor. He thoroughly enjoyed raising his family in Long Valley, coaching his children & making lifelong friends & memories.  Growing up in an Irish Catholic household, Frank was a spiritual man who rarely missed a Sunday mass, and later served his parish in St Michaels as a eucharistic minister delivering the sacrament to the homebound. He was most recently a member of St Vincent Martyr Catholic Church in Madison NJ.

He spent most of his career working for AT&T helping to build their global telecommunications network and partnerships.  The capstone of his career was building and managing AT&T’s first office in South Africa, where he also managed AT&T’s relationships with over 20 other countries in eastern and southern Africa.  He traveled extensively to over 50 countries both personally & professionally.

Frank spent the bulk of his retirement years living on and appreciating the beautiful views of the Miles River in St. Michaels, Maryland.  His passions for golfing, boating, fishing, motorcycling and tinkering in his workshop kept him very active.  He truly loved working on anything that involved building and carpentry; he was a fix it wizard!

Frank & Judy relocated to Florham Park NJ in 2021 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Judy, and their three children: Michael Tormey and his wife, Heather of Colts Neck, NJ; Janine Coletta and her husband AC of Chatham, NJ; and Andrea Grom and her husband Chuck of Chatham, NJ. He is also survived by his brother Tom of Newburyport, MA.  Pop Pop, as he was affectionately known, was loved dearly by all 10 of his grandchildren: Ryan, Jack, Kayla, Alexa, Brady, Julia, Owen, Quentin, Emma, and Charlotte.

Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Delia Tormey, and his eldest brother John Tormey.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 17 at 10:30am at St Vincent Martyr Church. 26 Green Village Road, Madison, NJ 07940 followed by a celebration of life at Fairmount Country Club in Chatham, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in his memory.
