Gordon Granger

Gordon Granger, 93, passed away at Fellowship Health Center with family by his side on Monday, November 28, 2022.

He was born June 5, 1929, in Queens, New York, to Allen and Frances Granger. Early years of his life were spent in Queens, Great Neck New York, Cranbury New Jersey and Blair Academy graduating in class 1947.  Lehigh University, Princeton University – graduating in class 1952, member of Tiger Inn.

Served as Second Lieutenant – Army Anti-Aircraft Command – Fort Totten, New York.  Gordon’s business career was in banking then in insurance with Provident Life and Accident Company, retiring as Regional Manager.

As a young man he loved participating in football, track, swimming, baseball – earning varsity letters plus being an outstanding welterweight wrestler.  While Gordon loved his sports, he also excelled on the debating team, member of the Webster Society; member of the Church Society; president of his dorm and student council.  Gifted with a lovely tenor voice, he was a four-year member of Blair’s choir.  He was awarded Blair’s Master Trophy, given to the graduating senior who most exemplifies a Blair Student.

Most of his life was spent in Chatham where he adored his four children and liked nothing better than being with his family.  He had many life-long friends; loved the Mets, Giants, a “mix the fruit” whiskey sour, Jeopardy and taking a good nap.  Active in community he was a member of Minisink, Canoe Brook, Toastmasters, Rotary, church Elder and helped “found” the Senior Center of the Chathams.  He was a student of the Civil War throughout his life as he was named after General Gordon Granger.  Greatly enjoyed tennis and paddle games and golfing with his buddies.  Gordon was a good storyteller, kind, patient, fun to be with and a true gentleman.

Predeceased by his first-born son, Greg, he is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marilyn; Daughters, Lynn Warfield (Mark), Cynthia Temple; Son, Douglas Granger (Anna); Grandsons, Peter Warfield, Taylor Temple, Chase Temple; Granddaughter, Katie Warfield Taranto (Zane); Great Granddaughter, Gianna Taranto; Brother-in-Law, Jack Hartwig (Donna) and very dear cousin Tamson Granger Abuhoff (Daniel).

Interment in church memorial garden is private.  Visitation at Bradley Funeral Home – 345 Main Street, Chatham, New Jersey 07928, Wednesday, December 14, 2022, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
