Harold “Joe” Driscoll, 85, of Springfield, New Jersey, formerly of Hillside, New Jersey, passed away on Friday, July 9, 2021, at Overlook Hospital.

Joe was born on November 2, 1935 in Bayonne, New Jersey. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James and Katherine (nee Dodge) Driscoll and was one of 11 children.

He was a parishioner and usher at St. James the Apostle Church, Springfield, NJ. Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Hillside and The Elks of Hillside/Springfield.  He was the Founding member of the Union County Irish American Association and supported many other church-based organizations over the course of his life.

In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing, swimming, bike riding, walking in the park and the beach.  He led a very active life.

Joe worked as a crossing guard from 2008 up until this year. He loved the kids on his crossing guard post.

He is survived by his wife Karen Driscoll and was the loving father of Patricia Driscoll, Joseph Driscoll, Carol Maguire, Maureen Schmidt, William Cieri and Joseph Cieri. Joe was the cherished grandfather of Stephanie, Megan, Patrick, Zachary, Alissa, Summer, Megan, Matthew, Madison, Ryan and great-granddaughter, Kennedy. In addition, he is survived by siblings, Katherine, Anne, Camille, Margaret, Nona, and Patrick. He was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia, and son Daniel; and siblings James, Edith, Jessica, and Jack.  He was an uncle to a host of nieces and nephews.

He was always happy, smiling, and laughing and had the ability to talk to anyone and lift their spirits. No one was ever a stranger. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Avenue, Springfield, NJ 07081. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at St. James the Apostle Church, 45 South Springfield Avenue, Springfield, NJ. An interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to his name to the Springfield First Aid Squad.
