Irene B. Kovacs “Ikey” of Chatham, NJ, went home to be with her Lord, passing peacefully in her sleep, at home on May 30, 2021. Ikey was predeceased by her loving husband, Frank Emeric Kovacs in 1999. Ikey was Born to Ida and Endre Biro in Szanosker, Hungary on May 3, 1930, where she lived until she immigrated to the United States when she was seven years old. Ikey lived in New Brunswick, NJ until 1962 when she married Frank Kovacs, the love of her life. In 1967, Ikey and her family moved to Chatham, a town that she loved and called home for almost 60 years. Ikey retired from Chubb & Son insurance company where she worked in the claims department for over 20 years.
Ikey is survived by her two beloved daughters, Leza Raymond and Sue Quiroga and son in laws Don and Carlos. Ikey leaves behind her seven cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth, William, Hannah, Jessica, Jacob, Matthew, Jason and her three great grandchildren, James, Elise and Isabella.
Ikey will always be remembered first and foremost for her endless love for her family, friends, animals, and life itself. She also loved gardening, Scrabble, reading, Ogden Memorial Presbyterian Church and baking.
A viewing will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021 from 11 am to 1 pm at Ogden Memorial Presbyterian Church, 286 Main St. Chatham, NJ, followed by a Funeral Service at 1pm. Interment to follow at Fair Mount Cemetery, Chatham.
