Luella Beach Gula, 97, of Dover, New Jersey passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Merry Heart Nursing Home in Succasunna, NJ.
Luella was born on December 2, 1918 in Mt. Hope, New Jersey. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William and Jennie (nee Keeshan) Beach.
She worked for over 40 years at Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, NJ as a contract negotiator for the Department of the Army. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling and taking cross-country trips, particularly to her ancestral home of Ireland. She enjoyed golfing in her youth and was a skilled Bridge and card player.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish (Dover, NJ) and the Third Order of St. Francis, and was actively involved with a number of catholic religious communities and social ministries, including the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement at Graymoor (Garrison, NY). She was also involved with the Dover Area Chamber of Commerce.
Luella was predeceased by her beloved husband, Anthony K. Gula, her son, Robert A. Gula, her sister, Marion B. Kiely, and her niece, Eleanor B. Heath. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Wallette Gula of Dover, NJ, grandsons; Bob Gula and wife Shelley of Short Hills, NJ and Roger Gula and wife Cami Okubo of San Francisco, CA. She was also the great-grandmother of Christopher, Matthew, Melissa, Peter, Kathryn, and Raiden Gula.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at St. Rose of Lima Church, 50 Short Hills Avenue, Short Hills, NJ 07078. An interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dover, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement in Luella’s name.
