Mary Helen Nevins
10/04/1937 - 04/09/2024

Mary Helen Nevins, our beautiful mom, wife, and grandmother, peacefully passed away on April 9th at Garden Terrace Nursing Home in Chatham, NJ, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born in New York City on October 4, 1937, to William Joseph Strube and Alexandra Roy Strube. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She graduated from Hunter College in 1959 and earned her MA in education from Teachers College in 1978. She dedicated over three decades to shaping young minds as a public school teacher in NYC and as a fierce union rights advocate.

Helen’s kindness, compassion, and boundless love touched countless lives. Her passion for education, history, and museums, along with her penchant for shopping, was surpassed only by her love for spoiling her grandchildren. Whether enjoying picnics, long country drives, or Sunday brunches with a glass of Chardonnay, Helen found joy in life’s simple pleasures, but above all, her family was her greatest treasure.

Delving into her family heritage in Quebec, tracing her lineage back through centuries of the Roy family, brought her immense happiness. Nothing brought her more joy than being surrounded by her children and grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure.

Survived by her devoted husband Stanley, her five children, Michelle (Phil), Edward (Sherry), Suzanne (Tom), Elizabeth (Tor), and Catherine (Daren), and her cherished grandchildren Zachary, Hailey, Shannon, and Kiera, Helen’s memory will forever be cherished by those who knew her.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2024 from 5 pm to 7 pm with a Prayer Service at 6 pm at the Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St. Chatham, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association, reflecting Helen’s compassionate spirit and dedication to helping others.

Mary Helen Nevins will be deeply missed, her warm heart and sincerity leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know her.
