MAUREEN B. OGDEN

 

Maureen B. Ogden, age 93, died peacefully at her apartment in Lantern Hill, New Providence, NJ, succumbing to pancreatic cancer on August 17, 2022. Loving spouse to the late Robert M. Ogden, III and mother of the late Thomas of Palm Desert, CA, Henry of Charleston, S.C., and Peter of Durango, CO; mother-in-law of Mary and Lena and devoted grandmother of Katherine, James and Benjamin. She graduated from the Kent Place School, Smith College, B.A., Columbia U., M.A., and Rutgers U., M.C.R.P. She served on the Millburn Township Committee from 1976-81, served as Mayor of Millburn 1979-81, then was elected to the N.J. General Assembly, serving from 1982-96. Some of her other positions include: Member, Board of Governors, N.J. Historical Society; Trustee, The Nature Conservancy; Commissioner, Palisades Interstate Park Commission; Chair, Governor’s Council on N.J. Outdoors; Member and first Chair, Garden State Preservation Trust; Trustee, N.J. Conservation Foundation; Chair, Conservation Committee of N.J. Garden Clubs (Zone IV of GCA). Some of her awards include: Annual Environmental Quality Award, E.P.A.; Certificate of Appreciation, J.F.K. Center for the Performing Arts; Cynthia Pratt Laughlin Award, Garden Club of America; Citation, Humane Society of the U.S.; President’s Conservation Achievement Award, The Nature Conservancy; Public Policy Award, National Trust for Historic Preservation; Distinguished Service Award, N.J. Audubon Society; Legislator of the Year, N.J. Conservation Foundation; Public Sector Preservation Award, N.J. Historic Trust; and the Ogden Environmental Award. She was a member of Baltusrol Golf Club, the Short Hills Club and Yeamans Hall Club, Charleston, S.C. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church, Short Hills on Saturday, September 17, 2022.
