Funeral Mass Live-stream

Patricia Ann Scribner, 87, of Chatham Borough passed away peacefully at her home on July 13, 2021.

Born and raised in Belmont, Massachusetts, the daughter of Edmund and Mary (Mulcahy) Bunyon, Pat graduated from Belmont High School, class of 1951. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Tufts University in 1955.  Shortly after graduation, Pat married her high school sweetheart and best friend, Howie Scribner, and together they built a wonderful life and lovingly raised their family in Chatham. She was a longtime parishioner at St. Patrick Church, and in her earlier years was a Girl Scout leader and an active participant in her children’s schools. The always stylish Pat had a great eye for fashion and loved a good bargain.  She was also an avid sports fan, cheering on her favorite teams: the New York Knicks, the New York Giants, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, following the stock market and spending summer days with the ‘Shady Ladies’ at the Minisink Swim Club, where she was a longtime member.

More than anything else, Pat loved spending time with her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Howard Scribner, Jr. for 46 years.  She was the loving mother of Mark Scribner (Dawn), Susan Mirza (Peter Murphy), and Nancy Ruscheinski (Edward).  She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Shaylea Scribner, Alexander Mirza, Christina Mirza, Sean Mirza, Kylie Ruscheinski and Keegan Ruscheinski and many caring nieces and nephews. “Nana” was the biggest cheerleader for her children and grandchildren, never missing a birthday, milestone or achievement. She will be greatly missed by her family, her loyal friends and her wonderful neighbors on Van Doren Avenue.

Pat is predeceased by her granddaughter Kelsey Scribner, her son-in-law Muzzi Mirza, her sister, Joanne Ginn and her brother Ned Bunyon.

The family would also like to thank Pat’s devoted caregivers, Troy Campbell, Nickey Navas and Cecilia Mensah for their kindness and companionship. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Chatham Emergency Squad, 45 Spring St., Chatham, NJ  07928 or the Howard and Patricia Scribner Scholarship Fund.
