Richard D. Ligertwood

Richard Duncan Ligertwood, 92, of Hackettstown, NJ (formerly of Chatham) passed away on January 27, 2023.  A memorial service will be held at Ogden Memorial Presbyterian Church, 286 Main St. in Chatham on Wednesday, February 1st at 10am.  Interment will follow at Fair Mount Cemetery. Visiting hours at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St. also in Chatham will be held on Tuesday, January 31st from 4:30 to 8:00pm.

Born in Newark, NJ, the son of Duncan and Marion (Gleghorn) Ligertwood, Dick was a graduate of Barringer High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in business from Rutgers University.  He worked in marketing at SBC Corp. in Livingston until his retirement in 1992.   Dick was involved with the Boy Scouts for over 75 years as a scout leader and as a district and nation volunteer.  He mentored many Eagle Scout candidates and leaders, quarter mastered at the Philmont National Camp and was the recipient of the distinguished Silver Antelope and Silver Beaver Awards.  A longtime member of Ogden Memorial Presbyterian Church where served as deacon and on the property committee, Dick was also named Grand Marshall of the Chatham Fourth of July Parade in 2016.  In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, remodeling homes and photography.

Dick was the beloved husband of the late Joanne.  He was the loving father of Nancy Allen and her husband Matthew, Susan Ligertwood, and Alan Ligertwood and his wife Anne.  He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Samantha Allen, Matthew Allen, Alexandra Allen, Zachary Ligertwood and Benjamin Ligertwood.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Dick’s memory may be made to Thomas A. Pepe Camping Scholarship, c/o Patriots Path, 1 Saddle Rd., Cedar Knolls, NJ  07927.
