Rita M. O’Malley, 99, of Whippany, passed away on May 3, 2022. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Chapel, Whippany Road in Whippany on Saturday, May 14th at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Born in Carbondale, PA, the daughter of John and Veronica (Gruss) Maholchic, Rita was raised in Childs, PA. She had lived in Whippany since 1956. Rita earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1963 and was a manager with AT&T for 25 years. A longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy and a member of the Hanover Seniors and the Telephone Pioneers of America, she enjoyed classical music, reading and traveling abroad.
Rita was the beloved wife of the late William O’Malley. She was the loving mother of William O’Malley and his wife Kathy, the late Mark O’Malley and the late Anne O’Malley. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Kelly and Eileen O’Malley, nieces Deborah Shakelton and Christa Horrigan and nephew, Mike Cooke. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita’s memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Northern New Jeresy, 175 South St., Morristown, NJ 07960.
