Rose A. Cipriano

Rose Anne Cipriano passed away peacefully on Thursday, 8 June 2023.  She was born in Brooklyn, NY on 8 September 1927 to Bertha and Sebastian Musumeci.  After attending public school in Brooklyn, NY she and her family moved to New Jersey in 1932.  She was graduated from Scotch Plains High School in 1945.  She then attended NJ College for Women, now known as Douglass College of Rutgers University, from which she was graduated in 1949.  She then attended Rutgers Law School.

She was introduced by her law school classmate Gioia Cipriano, to Gioia’s brother Peter A. Cipriano, P.E. and they were married on 3 September 1950.  Rose is predeceased by her parents, husband, and brother, John Musumeci. She is the mother of Anne Cipriano Venzon, Ph.D. and Gaetano (Guy) Cipriano, P.E. (Debbie). She is survived by them along with four grandchildren, John Venzon (Amber), Elizabeth Venzon Joiner (Thomas), Peter Cipriano (Dana) and Julia Cipriano.  She is also survived by her two step grandsons, Alex Holt and Christopher Holt, CPA (Olivia). She is also survived by her six great grandchildren.

Rose was active in the Douglass College Alumni Association for over twenty years serving on the Board of Directors as well as four years as President of the Association.  She was a winner of Douglass College Margaret T. Corwin Award recognizing outstanding service to the Associate Alumnae of the College.

She was also a Certified Braille Transcriber, volunteering for the Essex County Red Cross Braille Unit for over 45 years.  She was honored as the Woman of the Year by the Essex County Red Cross Chapter in 2004.  She was also a member of the Essex County Red Cross Board of Directors for over 25 years serving as Secretary for 20 years.

She and her husband, Peter, were enthusiastic supporters of St. John’s Soup Kitchen in Newark.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: St. John’s Soup Kitchen, 22 Mulberry Street, Newark, NJ  07102
