Ruth Underwood White
11/29/1964 - 03/15/2024

Ruth Underwood White, of Morristown, died on March 15th, after a two-year battle with cancer.  She was 59.  Born and raised in Summit, Ruth was a lifelong resident of the area.

Those who knew her well remember Ruth for her kindness, generosity, and cheerfulness.  Ruth was completely devoted to her family, especially to her mother, and to her six nephews, one niece, and three grand nephews.  Throughout their school years she enthusiastically attended soccer, baseball, and basketball games, concerts, plays, and graduations.  When her nephews were young, she was eager to babysit, take them apple picking – annually! – and to various parks and events.  When the boys went to college Ruth regularly sent letters, emails, and, perhaps most importantly to them, care packages of her wonderful chocolate-chip cookies.

Ruth faithfully attended mass all her life and was a member of Corpus Christi Church in Chatham.  Along with her mother, Ruth generously contributed gifts to Corpus Christi’s Christmas-in-a-Box drive for underprivileged families in the area, one of her favorite charities.

Ruth loved to entertain.  Until Covid she hosted an annual Christmas party.  In recent years she hosted the family’s Christmas Eve gathering, including this last year, despite being weakened by cancer.

Ruth loved music, walking, reading, going to the gym and was an avid Jets fan.

Ruth was a graduate of Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child, and the University of Lynchburg, where she earned a B.A. in Psychology.  Over her career she worked for Hooper Holmes, Liz Claiborne, and for the past twenty years in the payroll and benefits departments at Novartis.  Predeceased by one brother, Ruth is survived by her mother, five siblings, six nephews, one niece, and three grand nephews.

There will be a wake for Ruth at Wm. A. Bradley Funeral Home, 345 Main St. Chatham, on Thursday, March 21st, from 3:00pm – 7:00pm.  A Funeral Mass ass will be held at 11:00 on Friday, at Corpus Christi Church, 234 Southern Blvd. Chatham Township, NJ.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to the Carol G. Simon Cancer Center, 100 Madison Ave. Morristown, NJ 07960 (https://www.f4mmc.org/donate-now/), or to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Ave. New York, NY 10065 (https://giving.mskcc.org/).
