Wendel M. Zahn, 85, of Springfield passed away on August 9, 2017. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 15th at 11:00am at Bradley, Smith & Smith Funeral Home, 415 Morris Ave in Springfield. Interment is private. Visitation will be on Monday from 6 to 9pm and Tuesday from 10 to 11am prior to the service. To send a condolence, please visit

Born in East Orange, the son of Milton and Mae (Rossbach) Zahn, Wendel was raised in Newark where he graduated from Weequahic High School in 1949. He was a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army during the Korean War. A Supervisor at NJ Bell, Wendel retired in 1991 after 36 years of service. He was an avid gardener and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandson. Wendel will be fondly and proudly remembered for his love and tireless dedication as caregiver to his wife, Verna.

Wendel was the beloved husband of 55 years to the late Verna “Tuny” Zahn. He was the loving father of Wendy Harris (Stephen), Cindy Zahn, Frank Zahn, and Donald Zahn (Ann). He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Abigail McCann (Michael), Matthew Harris (Maria), Ryan Zahn, and Patrick Zahn (girlfriend Shannon) and great grandson, Lucas Harris. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wendel’s memory may be made to Center for Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, 1900 Raritan Rd, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076.
